

The most inconsistent part is the second one, as it follows no particular rule, it's just the number apointed to a specific model at the factory (and should be viewed together with the first digits, too). Other pointers: 8 tweed case, 7 modern case, 3 gig bad, 5 no case or bag. For instance while 00 denotes a rosewood board and 02 a maple, a scalloped rosewood fretboard would be a 10 and a maple 12. Some stuff might also change if there is something very specific about the model. Some of these numbers are very easy to decode, like the color number at the end - find a fender color chart you will see these clearly.

Just use the above as a guide and look at the different models to get an idea. It's not that difficult though, I just figured it out by comparing different guitars/models. No document I'm afraid, at least as far as I know.
